I've been so excited about starting our first flock of chickens, we have been talking about since we moved here. I've been researching info on chickens from raising healthy chicks, chick breeds and chicken eggs ever since (off and on at least). I have to say this time around it was my sister who got me rethinking chickens. "Have you ever seen Tori Spelling's chicken?" She asked..... so we spent all of new years day looking into the silkie breed and I knew I was getting at least 2. Looked into hatchery ' s and local breeders. I'm excited to announce Saturday I will be bringing home 3 or 4 baby silkies..... I hate waiting. Lol
Though silkies make great pets are our sweet and docile birds (so I've read, I'll keep you posted). They aren't great layers, The biggest benefit of backyard chickens is the eggs. This could only mean one thing. I have to get 2 different breeds. So I'm rocking the kids to sleep about a week ago researching chicken breeds I want a nice bird that lays pretty good.....I decided on buff orpington's, an easy choice!!! I'm yet to read a bad review on this breed. ♡ The Golden retriever of chickens♡ (<-again so I'm told, lol) I figured I would get the silkies let them grow up then get the buff a few months from know.
Bored again last night while rocking the kids ;) I for some reason start looking for buff orpington breeds in my area. I HIT THE CHICKS JACKPOT we'll not really but I got excited lol a lady not far from me ordered from a hatchery who's had a large minimum since it's winter. I ended up meet her (a very nice Vet) and got to buff is Lily and Anna (short for Lodianna, one of Ryan ' s crazy adorable nick names). The first 2!!!
